Visit of the delegation from Leibniz University Hannover (LUH)

Delegation from Leibniz University Hannover (LUH) at ENS Paris-Saclay
From 22 to 24 March 2023, ENS Paris-Saclay had the pleasure of receiving a delegation from Leibniz University Hannover (LUH) led by Professor Christina VON HAAREN, Vice President for International Affairs. This visit ended with the renewal of the memorandum of understanding that links us since 2017 with the prestigious German university.

The delegation consisted of 10 scientists from Leibniz University Hannover (LUH).

The first day allowed the delegation to visit:

It also met with Sandrine LACOMBE, University Paris-Saclay's Vice President for International Relations and her team, which gave the delegation an insight into the University's organisational structure and its ties with other institutions on the Saclay Plateau.

A DAY AT ENS PARIS-SACLAY

The second day was spent within the walls of ENS Paris-Saclay itself, where the delegation was welcomed by the President, Nathalie CARRASCO, as well as Philippe MAITRE and Olivier HUBERT, Vice Presidents for Research and Education respectively.

Following some institutional presentations, the session kicked off with a discussion with the researchers on ways to further strengthen our collaboration.

Accord
Renouvellement de l’accord-cadre qui lie le LUH et l'ENS Paris-Saclay depuis 2017.

This concluded with the renewal of the framework agreement that we have had since 2017.

Our German colleagues had the opportunity to visit several of the school's laboratories (Centre Borelli, Laboratory of Mechanics Paris-Saclay (LMPS), Supramolecular and Macromolecular Photophysics and Photochemistry (PPSM), as well as the Scène de Recherche.

On their final day, the delegates were received at AgroParisTech, where they were given a tour and an overview of the school. Finally, a tour of Safran Tech concluded the delegation's time here.

Strengthening the ties between ENS Paris-Saclay and Hannover

Through its Laboratory of Mechanics Paris-Saclay - LMPS, ENS Paris-Saclay works alongside the University of Hannover in an International Research Training Group (IRTG).

  • An initial IRTG ran from 2009 to 2019 (led by Olivier ALLIX from ENS Paris-Saclay and Peter WRIGGERS from LUH), providing over 60 PhD students with the opportunity to spend six months in one of the two establishments and to participate in international workshops.
  • A new IRTG was initiated in 2021 (led by David NÉRON from ENS Paris-Saclay and Udo NACKENHORST from LUH) and is expected to run for a period of nine years, with three groups of 20 PhD students.
  • In addition, the Franco-German “Sophisticated Numerical and Testing Approaches” Doctoral College, funded by the Franco-German University, was also launched in 2019 and renewed in 2023.

This visit, which followed a trip to LUH in 2018 by 10 or so delegates from ENS Paris-Saclay, bodes well for the future of our collaboration and its further development.
