Results of the 2023 autonomous car race

On April 15, 2023, 13 teams composed of students from IUT, Grandes Ecoles and Universities were at the rendezvous for the great autonomous car race at ENS Paris-Saclay.
Congratulations to the 2023 winners: Charlène Surault and Martin Raynaud from the ENS Paris-Saclay team!

Since 2020, teams of students (IUT, Grandes Ecoles and Universities) meet every year at ENS Paris-Saclay for a grand final of 1/10th autonomous car race, in a friendly and collaborative spirit.
The teams prepare their autonomous car and help each other during the whole year.

This year, 13 teams were present in the Germaine Tillion atrium, on Saturday April 15, 2023, from 9am to 6:30pm.

Ranking

  • Charlène Surault and Martin Raynaud from ENS Paris-Saclay are 2023 winners after the two races in the final.
  • The IUT of Evry Val d'Essonne wins the DUT prize.
  • The team of Polytech Paris-Saclay finishes second, followed by the team of the second car of the ENS Paris Saclay and the one of the Institut Villebon - Georges Charpak.
  • The ENSTA Paris team finished in the lead of the first qualification before breaking its direction, with an extremely powerful car.
  • The Faculty of Sciences of the University of Paris-Saclay wins the final "carnage race" (the last on track of the 11-car race).

The races

The cars are fully autonomous.
The first 6 qualified cars competed on three laps of the track in two rounds. The "race commissioner" removes the cars obviously blocked or driving in the opposite direction.

In the order of the starting grid, after qualifying:

  • École normale supérieure Paris-Saclay, dark blue car controlled by a trajectory choice algorithm from research on autonomous cars.
  • École normale supérieure Paris-Saclay, pink car controlled by a neural network trained by reinforcement learning;
  • ENSTA Paris in light blue (steering unfortunately broken during the previous qualification).
