The exhibition

Design | Practice | Research

We look at the world not as it is but as it could be. Drawing on design, we imagine different worlds through critical and prospective creations aimed at transforming our habits.

The design project questions the systems from which objects emerge, beyond the design of artefacts: resources, production, distribution, marketing and economics. The aim is to understand how these systems influence, inform or limit design.

The Design Department of ENS Paris-Saclay and its associated laboratory, the Centre de Recherche en Design, encourage research that questions the norms and roles of industrial design. They develop

  • projects exploring local, situated and participatory solutions
  • projects that propose alternative roles for design in the context of scientific research;
  • projects combining simple technologies with high technologies.

The pedagogical approach articulates theory and practice: history, philosophy, culture and design techniques are at the heart of the teaching of the Master of Design Research.

In parallel with the exhibition

Urban walks and observation workshops

A series of urban walks and observation workshops are proposed to rediscover urban landscapes with the help of a cam-obs, a camera obscura specially designed to look at, draw and exchange around our common ground.

Meet on 26, 27 May or 3 or 7 June 2023. On registration.
