Romain MENARD, top of his class in 2023 for the external agrégation in engineering sciences.

I really appreciated the kindness and help of my classmates throughout the year in re-explaining the concepts to me after my years away from school. Despite the competition, there was no sense of competition between the students and there was a lot of mutual support.

What is your career path?

After taking a baccalauréat in Engineering Sciences, I joined the Industrial Engineering department at INSA Lyon after the integrated preparatory course. I obtained my engineering degree in 2011 and then worked for more than 10 years in industry in a variety of positions: production engineer, maintenance manager, project engineer, etc. In 2022, I decided to change careers and become a teacher and enrolled at ENS Paris-Saclay to prepare for the agrégation in Industrial Engineering Sciences - Mechanical Engineering option.

Why did you choose to do a FESup Master 2?

I took the Master 2 'Formation à l'enseignement supérieur en mécanique' course at ENS Paris-Saclay because I felt it was the best way to prepare for the agrégation I was aiming for. The teaching is of a very high standard and the students have all the equipment they need to prepare for the orals.
The course enabled me to brush up my scientific knowledge and develop the teaching skills I needed for my future role as a teacher.

What would you say to students who are hesitating about coming to ENS Paris-Saclay or taking the agrégation?

ENS Paris-Saclay is a prestigious school offering high-quality teaching. For those who are hesitating, I encourage you to contact the alumni who will be able to give you information, share their experience and answer your questions.As for the agrégation, this is a demanding exam but one that is still entirely attainable if you work hard. With ENS Paris-Saclay, you'll be in good hands to prepare for this exam with peace of mind.

What are your career plans?

I'm now going to do my year as a trainee teacher. Probably in "Classes Préparatoires" where I'd like to work as a permanent teacher afterwards.
