Patrice Abry, Grand Prix IMT-Académie des Sciences 2024
A specialist in complex systems, Patrice Abry, an alumnus of the École normale supérieure Paris-Saclay (class of 1986, Nicolas Tesla department), made his mark on the field of computer network analysis in the late 90s. In 1998, his groundbreaking work with Darryl Veitch identified the fractal nature of Internet traffic for the first time, revealing previously unsuspected regularities in data flows. This discovery profoundly transformed our understanding of networks and set in motion a series of research projects spanning more than two decades, also impacting crucial fields such as cybersecurity.
Patrice Abry's pioneering approach, combining theory and practice, has established new paradigms in the analysis of complex systems. His research not only contributed to our understanding of network behavior, but also laid the foundations for practical applications still in use today. These advances have paved the way for new analysis tools used in network management and digital security.
Throughout his career, Patrice Abry has maintained a strong link with the fundamental principles of research, while adapting his work to the rapid technological developments in his field. Patrice Abry was awarded the Prix Michel-Monpetit INRIA by the Académie des Sciences in 2020. In 2024, he was once again honored with the Grand Prix IMT-Académie des Sciences.
