Civil Engineering

Master of Civil Engineering
Master of Civil Engineering
This major coordinates the predominantly research-based specializations related to civil engineering (construction, geotechnical engineering, transport, hydraulics, and the environment) and subsurface engineering.

Learning objectives

Students can build a study path geared towards one of two areas:

  • Civil Engineering: expertise and continuity of knowledge from materials to structures; mastery of the construction process and the conditions for building quality and sustainability.
  • Subsurface engineering: in addition to the strong interaction between soil and constructions, the exploration and exploitation of reservoirs and storage (water, gas, oil, CO2, waste, etc.) is one of the main objectives.

Masters 1

Master 1 : Civil Engineering - Envelope and Sustainable Construction

Eligible public - Secured pathway

  • Be registered as a student at ENS Paris-Saclay
  • Foreign student (excluding nationals of the European Economic Area, Andorra, Switzerland or Monaco) whose country of residence is covered by the Études en France scheme.
  • Students currently enrolled on the first year of the Master’s degree in ‘Materials, Structures and Energy for Sustainable Construction’ and permitted to repeat the year
  • See how to apply for "the secured pathway".

Eligible public - External pathway

  • External student at ENS Paris-Saclay (not administratively registered at ENS Paris-Saclay)
  • Student from a country of the European Economic Area (including Andorra, Switzerland and Monaco)
  • Students of other nationalities who are resident in France or who have already obtained a degree in France
  • See how to apply for "the external pathway".

Students accepted onto the first year of the Master’s programme in Civil Engineering will have the opportunity to apply for one of the two complementary university degrees on offer:

  • The Master’s in Engineering Science, which can be completed in two years instead of three
  • The ENS Paris-Saclay Diploma, which can be completed in three years instead of four

Master 2

M2 Advanced Materials, Structure and Energy for sustainable construction

The programme focuses on civil engineering research, with a twofold aim: to improve the energy efficiency and comfort of buildings through a sustainable approach, and to study the behaviour of materials and the strength of structures, combining modelling with numerical and experimental methods.

M2 : Formation à l'enseignement supérieur en Génie civil

Graduates of this programme can expect to find employment as university lecturers in civil engineering. They are also eligible to sit the competitive examination for the agrégation in industrial engineering sciences, specialising in construction engineering.

Partnerships

The Master’s programme is delivered in partnership with other member institutions of Paris-Saclay University (Centrale-Supelec, CEA, Paris-Saclay University).

The research associated with the Master’s programmes draws on the expertise of the affiliated LMPS laboratory.

Career prospects

The Master’s programme trains high-calibre scientists in the fields of civil engineering.
It primarily leads to doctoral studies. Students will thus be able to pursue careers as researchers, lecturers or engineers in research and development.
